Based on the Northgard video game universe, Northgard: Uncharted Lands is a game of conquest and exploration set in the Viking Age. Each player controls a Viking clan that strives for victory in various ways by reaping glory or controlling the most valuable territories of this new continent.
The game focuses on simplistic rules and mechanics, making the gameplay fast and smooth. Each turn, players change their actions to adapt their strategies to their opponents' moves and the expansion of the board. Fame (ie points) can be earned by exploring, fighting, controlling and developing territories. The various corresponding actions are performed using the cards that the players have in their hands. At the end of each turn, they must choose a new card to improve their personal deck as their clans develop new tactics and technology.
Conquering Northgard also requires skillful management of resources to build new buildings, increase the effectiveness of your troops, improve your hand of cards, and upgrade your clan's traits. The winter phase makes this management difficult as you have to feed your troops to keep them healthy and happy.
The pace of the game is determined by the players, as the game ends after seven turns, but can also be stopped at any time if one of them controls three closed areas containing certain types of buildings.
